 Welcome to Kindergarten
Kindergarten is a magical time in which young children grow and blossom. Kindergarten is the beginning of a child’s academic journey and it should be a year full of excitement about learning. At Whitman the Kindergartners’ day is filled with reading, writing and math within the themes of social studies and science. Throughout the week the students attend classes in physical education, music, art, technology and library. Children also participate in centers and participate in hands-on activities with math manipulatives, science experiments, literature, computers, and play.   Becoming respectful, independent students is key to success, and the kindergarten students participate in social skills that promote these life long skills. Kindergartners enter 1st grade with a love of learning and a strong academic foundation.

Whitman Elementary offers a daily morning and afternoon Kindergarten program. The morning session runs from 9:06-11:55 and afternoon
12:55-3:43. We also offer a tuition based half day Kindergarten enrichment program.

Dear Parents,

We know that it may be tricky to find time to get to the library and check out new books or sometimes your children may attempt to read books that are a challenge. Although we encourage children to visit the library and find books of interest, we now have a new way for you and your child to read at home! Our new Houghton Mifflin reading series allows children to access hundreds of ‘just right’ books from home by accessing http://eduplace.com/eservices. You’ll find this program to be such a motivator and a frequented website that you’ll want to add to your favorites! We will also have a link on our Literacy Web page
