Welcome to the Whitman Elementary School Web-Site.  Here is an update on our current work:

November 12 Late Start:  The staff deepened their understanding regarding the use of mentor text.  Mentor texts are pieces written by published authors to help teach students about writing and how certain authors use different writing techniques.  The goal is to have students emulate these authors and become better writers as they write like an author they are studying.  As teachers read aloud in their classrooms, teachers will be highlighting specific techniques author's use.

December 3 will be our next late start and we will continue to the best books to use with students to teach writing.

School Tours for next year's transitionsJust a reminder that Highland, Runyon and Moody will be giving tours every Tuesday in December from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If you can not make one of these scheduled tours you can call the school and they will set an alternative time for you to tour.
